Grammar Gaps

Each sentence has a word missing. Choose the word that fits the gap correctly. Homophones (their/there/they're), verb forms and Standard English: the exact traps the 11+ and SATs love. Instant feedback and an explanation for every one.

What does this practise? (a quick guide for parents)

Grammar questions in the 11+ usually test whether a child can hear past how a sentence sounds and choose what is actually correct. This trainer covers the three biggest sources of lost marks:

  • Homophones: words that sound the same but are spelled differently (their/there/they're, your/you're, to/too/two).
  • Verb forms: was/were, has/have, and tricky pasts like did/done and went/gone.
  • Standard English: could have (not could of), double negatives, and me/I after and.

The best practice is little and often. A round a day beats an hour once a week.
